Ultion 3* and 1* cylinders: what’s the difference

This trips a lot of homeowners up, so worth being clear on it. Under the TS007 standard, a 3-star cylinder meets the full standard on its own, including snap resistance, and works with any door handle. A 1-star cylinder passes drilling, picking and bumping tests but not snapping on its own, it needs pairing with a 2-star rated security handle to bring the door up to an equivalent 3-star system. If you’ve got a 1-star Ultion cylinder fitted with a standard handle, your door isn’t fully protected against snapping regardless of the lock. Bring your handle details in and we’ll tell you straight whether it’s doing its job.

Most Ultion key cutting is done by post: you send a code or photograph to an online supplier, wait two to four days, and the key arrives unlabelled for security. We cut on-site the same visit, no ID required. Bring either:

  • The key code engraved on your existing key head, or
  • The key itself, if it’s clear enough to read

We supply and cut, we don’t fit. Swapping an Ultion cylinder is a straightforward job for a competent locksmith and we’re happy to point you toward one we trust locally. If you’re doing it yourself, measuring your door thickness correctly before ordering matters, get that wrong and the cylinder won’t sit flush.

Can you cut my Ultion key without the code?
Yes, if we can read an existing key clearly enough to copy it accurately.

Do you fit Ultion locks?
No. We supply and cut keys in-shop, and can recommend a trusted local locksmith for fitting.

Will a key from your shop affect my Ultion guarantee?
No, the opposite. As a licensed Ultion Key Centre we cut on genuine blanks through Ultion’s own system, which is what keeps the guarantee valid. Keys cut elsewhere on generic blanks can invalidate it.

What’s the difference between a 1-star and 3-star Ultion cylinder?
A 3-star cylinder meets the full anti-snap standard alone. A 1-star cylinder needs a 2-star rated handle fitted alongside it to reach the same protection.

Do I need ID to get a key cut?
No, you don’t need to bring ID for an Ultion key to be cut.
